The retreat sessions described below involve
the very best yoga and meditation practitioners in the Sedona area.
Any of these sessions can be added to your SpiritQuest retreat package to
create a personalized experience that is based on your unique needs and
goals.
Breathwork
The breath is our most direct connection with life. We can live for days
without food and water, but only a few minutes without breathing. Properly
oxygenated blood is essential to every cell in the body, and is food for
the brain. Various breathing techniques can be used for relaxation,
meditation healing, or to tap into the subconscious mind. As such, a
breathwork session is highly recommended for all retreat participants.

Meditate - Guided Meditation Sessions
Over the last 30 years modern science has finally begun to recognize and
catalog the enormous health benefits of daily meditation. Because
the mind and body are intimately connected, when the mind settles down, so
does the body. Meditation has been scientifically proven to reduce
both heart rate and blood pressure, in addition to normalizing sleeping
and eating habits. Those who meditate report increased levels of
self-esteem, energy, and creativity, improved focus and concentration, AND
a greater overall sense of well-being. Best of all, anyone can learn
to meditate. And once you know how all of these benefits can be
yours absolutely FREE -- for the rest of your life! During this
session you will be guided through a tranquil journey using sound and
crystal bowls, allowing you to move to a deep place of stillness and
rhythm within yourself. You will come out glowing.
Hatha Yoga
The word Hatha is a compound of the words Ha and Tha meaning sun and moon.
Hatha Yoga is what most people in the West associate with the word
"Yoga" and it is widely practiced for mental and physical health
throughout the West. It is considered to be a preparatory stage of
physical purification that renders the body fit for the practice of higher
meditation. The postures of Hatha Yoga work with the energy channels
of the subtle body that must be fully operational to attain a state of
enlightenment. It is a strong practice done for purification.
Iyengar Yoga
A form of Hatha Yoga, Iyengar focuses on three aspects: mastery of the
body, mind and soul. The structural alignment of the physical body
is accomplished through the development of postures (known as asanas).
Through the practice of postures and control of the breath, Iyengar Yoga
aims to unite the body, mind and spirit for health and well being.
This form is a powerful tool to relieve the stresses of modern-day life,
which in turn helps to promote total physical and spiritual well being.
The Iyengar is different from other styles of Yoga by 3 key elements:
technique, sequence and timing. Props such as cushions, benches,
blocks, straps, and even sand bags, are used as aids allowing beginners to
experience asanas more easily and fully than might otherwise be possible
without several years of practice.
Kundalini Yoga
Introduced to the United States in 1969, Kundalini Yoga is relatively new
to the West. Sometimes called the "yoga of awareness," its
focuses on energy centers (known as chakras) within the physical body in
order to stimulate the spiritual and creative potential that exists within
every human being. Spiritual power (known as Kundalini), is conceptualized
as a coiled serpent lying at the base of the spine. This energy can
be stimulated and awakened through the practice of yoga, then moved upward
to the higher chakras, giving the practitioner enhanced mental clarity and
creativity. Kundalini Yoga is activates the energy that resides in
the spine by activating the nerve channels that are intertwined there.
Vinyasa Yoga
In vinyasa yoga the focus is on creating a sequence of asanas that allows
each posture to transition gracefully into the next. The whole
practice is defined by six specific postures, always done in the same
order, combined with specific breathing patterns. This is a
physically active form of yoga, the purpose of which is to create heat in
the body, leading to purification of through increased circulation and
sweating.
Yoga Hike
Yoga is aimed to unite the mind, the body, and the spirit. Yogis view that
the mind and the body are one, and that if it is given the right tools and
taken to the right environment, it can find harmony and heal itself. Yoga
therefore is considered therapeutic. It helps you become more aware of
your body's posture, alignment and patterns of movement. It makes the body
more flexible and helps you relax even in the midst of a high stress
environment. Yoga on the red rocks can be a powerful experience.
